VET CHECK WATER SYSTEM

Since I never have a crew, I had real problems (being efficient and quick)  with cooling off my horse and taking care of him and me. The sponge thing process never really worked well for me.. water all over the horse me and the ground. I had to find a better way.

The big crews used water spray rig on the trucks.

I needed a setup that was portable and could be used at any VC.

I got a motorhome water pump - as cheap as I could fine. a 10 ft coiled hose and multi pattern spray head, short clear plastic hose and a small 12 vdc battery pack.

I connected the pump to the battery pack with a lighter plug

The pump runs till the pressure switch cuts off. The spray is strong and can be set to a nice fan shower or mist as well as the jet spray to take off mud.

I stand in front or on the side of him- let him eat grain or hay or drink and just let the spray/ water flow over him.

I strap on the HRM and a watch attached to it set for 66 when it beeps, I stop and see if it stays down - if not I start up again. Most times if all is well , If he is about 62, I can walk over to the pulse area and he will go through at about 60 or 56.

This setup reduces the amount of time it takes for me to get him cooled down and pulsed though . Most rides I can get into the pulse area within 5 minutes upon arrival.

I use about 5 gals or less per VC.

I think I have about $75 in this setup. Sure worth it, since it reduces my time in the VC hold as well as stress on both of us.

I normally mist him down again before we go out.
