TIMEX HR-GPS ADAPTATION TO THE HORSE

The testing today was not acceptable. Does appear there is a problem with obtaining consistent reliable readings. One day it all works fine next day I have problems. I have not figured it all out yet.
The TIMEX transmitter design appears to not work well with the horse's EKG. At times it appears the readings are cut in half - the watch shows 32 while the actual HR is 64. I verify the reading with the proven analog transmitter and receiver watch.
I have both transmitters attached to the saddle. I use the same set of lead wires and swap them between the two transmitters. I am able to rule out problems caused by the lead wires and the connections to the horse. I use the same attaching EKG stickon electrodes on the CS-analog transmitter that I am using on the TIMEX FM transmitter.
The CS-HRM displays the correct HR readings. While the TIMEX may or may not. I have concluded this transmitter has problems with ANY artifact loose or moving and dry connections as well as long hair.
I noted the readings are better if I place BOTH electrodes on the LEFT side of the horse. That is one under the saddle and the other under the girth on the left side. I also have clipped out the long hair. I tried this today at the end of the ride and the reading were correct. Additional test rides will show if this is the correct location for the electrodes.
I did some research on the human HRM sites, bike riders and runners. It does appear the human application of this monitor has problems. I read more then one report that indicated the HRM dropped beats, did not respond to changes in effort very fast. That supports my findings with the use on the horse.
It does appear the TIMEX HR transmitter design is or may be flawed.
I will continue with the testing, and providing reports on my web site and in the RIDECAMP posting.
At this time I have decided to NOT offer the complete monitor for sale.
I will provide the complete lead-electrode adapter kit for riders who may desire to purchase the TIMEX GPS+HR system form other sources and adapt the transmitter for horse use.
I will provide a direction paper on how to make do the adaptation, pictures included. However you are on your own. Problems will occur.
If an when I get the interface connections working consistently, I will offer the complete system.
I am providing this to everyone in the free public forum to those who may want to try this on their own.
I have the strip transmitter lead-electrode working dead on with the CS and other human belt-strip type of transmitters. I do not have any reservations about offering my V-MAX EHRM system with this adaptation kit. As I indicated in my discussion about the ANALOG transmitter, I may be forced into using this method as the standard transmitter lead electrode kit for my V-MAX.
